Many of us are setting new fitness goals as we start the new year. But before you make any resolutions, you want to set yourself up for success. Here are some tips to help you create a fitness routine you’ll love—and stick to in 2025!
1. Schedule your workouts.
As a certified personal trainer in Concord, New Hampshire, and someone who has trained with a coach for over 15 years, I can tell you that consistency is essential to a sustainable and effective fitness plan. Your workouts must be a regular part of your daily or weekly routine. Add them to your calendar and set reminders—as you would with any other important appointment.
2. Keep it enjoyable.
If you don’t like your fitness routine, you won’t stick with it. There are many ways to incorporate fitness into our lives—from yoga to line dancing, walking, biking, or working out at a gym or with a personal trainer. Stick with activities you enjoy so you’ll look forward to your workouts.

3. Exercise with a friend or group.
Working out with a friend or as part of a fitness group will keep you motivated and accountable. It also makes fitness more social and fun! So grab one of your friends and start your fitness journey together!
4: Mix it up.
Varying your activities (i.e., strength training, cardio, and stretching exercises like yoga or Pilates) will keep your routine interesting and bring added workout benefits.
5. Avoid overtraining.
Overtraining can lead to burnout, strain, or injury. Rest days, along with massage, will help your muscles recover.
